"Witch Hunter" Short Comedy Screenplay: Portland Comedy Film Festival 2017 Official Selection

Synopsis: "A respected witch hunter accuses and puts three peasants through a series of trials to determine which one of them is guilty of using witchcraft on their settlement's priest. While the accused maintaining their innocence comes as no surprise to this experienced witch hunter, them inadvertently unraveling all his divine methods by trying to be helpful has him on the brink of insanity."

Inspiration: There's this great (and actually very dramatic) film by Robert Eggers called "The Witch". Basically it's the 1600's in New England, this boy goes missing and his family all start pointing fingers at one another saying that somebody in the house is cozy with the devil and practicing witchcraft. Turns out nobody in the family was but, they pushed the daughter so hard that she ends up selling her soul to the devil and running off into the woods naked. ANYWAYS, all very serious stuff. As I watched the movie though I thought it might be interesting to take that stereotypical man of god "finger pointing" character + the people he's accusing and give them that Dr. Scratchansniff versus the Yacko, Wacko and Dot (Animaniacs) relationship which ended up translating over pretty well and acted as the foundation for this script.

"Witch Hunter" is a short comedy screenplay written by Ryan Somohano. If you would like a copy of the script, you can email Ryan directly.
